A handyman can complete a wide range of job duties. They perform many different repair types such as fixing plumbing or electrical problems, painting or handling simple flooring tasks. Handymen generally have a little bit of knowledge in a wide variety of areas as opposed to being a specialist in one field.

Difference Between A Handyman And Contractor

A general contractor is in charge of a large job. He may perform some of the work himself, but will usually have to hire additional people to work on certain areas of a job. Where as a handyman may be able to work on all areas of the job without having to hire additional individuals if he has enough knowledge in each task that needs to be performed. This can save time overall because instead of having to hire several different people to complete each different task a handyman can just complete them all.

Required Licensing And Legal Requirements

Some states will require that a handyman obtain licensing. They may also be restricted to performing tasks that are considered to be basic or not too in depth. For example, a handyman may be allowed to change light switches or install a ceiling fan, but are not legally allowed to rewire an entire house.
